For a band less than a decade old, The Bees have packed in a lot of highs. They released their Mercury Prize-nominated album Sunshine Hit Me to critical acclaim in March 2002. Having notoriously recorded those first songs in key Bee Paul Butler's garden shed, the band decamped to Abbey Road for follow-up Free The Bees two years later. Tours with Fleet Foxes, Oasis and collaborations with Gorillaz followed before the band returned to a new, improved, indoor studio on the Isle of Wight for their third album Octopus in 2007.
The Bees supported Oasis in 2005, and Madness in December 2007 during their Christmas tour, and supported Paul Weller in the UK on selected dates of his "Winter Arena Tour". In 2010, The Bees performed a set for The Sun, covering "We Speak No Americano" and playing song from their album, Every Step's A Yes. Paul Butler appeared on stage at the Glastonbury Festival in 2010 with Devandra Banhart, after performing two sets of their own.
