Don Brownrigg make his MMR debut with ‘It Takes All Kinds (To Make This World I Find)’. Written and recorded over a 2-year span in Nova Scotia by Don and producer Daniel Ledwell performing nearly every part on the album. Featuring the CBC-loved single ‘Sweet Dream Sleeper’ and ‘Just Breathe’ from his Southern Souls session. Forming from Andy Cabic’s backing band and moving West to Portland, Pure Bathing Culture‘s debut LP ‘Moon Tides’ is available now. The band premiered the much loved single ‘Pendulum’ on Gorilla VS Bear and followed it up with the fantastic stop motion video for ‘Dream The Dare’. Currently on the North American leg of their tour, they visit Toronto November 2nd at the Silver Dollar with Widowspeak.
Ten years on from their last release, The Dismemberment Plan return with ‘Uncanney Valley’. Travis Morrison detailed the album earlier this year in an interview with Noisey. The band heads out on their first tour since reuniting, hitting the US and the UK before the end of the year. Now three records deep, Jonathan Wilson’s latest ‘Fanfare’ is available now. Featuring vocal and instrumental contributions from Graham Nash, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Father John Misty, Wilco’s Patrick Sansone and more, the album celebrates friends and family. Jonathan is currently on tour in the UK and Europe but those itching to see him now can watch the video for ‘Dear Friend’.
Cold War Kids follow up this year’s killer comeback “Dear Miss Lonelyhearts” with the “Tuxedos” EP. Featuring two previously unreleased songs ”Romance Languages #2″ and “Pine St.”, a pair of covers, and two tracks from Lonelyhearts. The band continue their North American tour now through November, see dates here. Brooklyn’s San Fermin traveled to the mountainous border between Alberta and British Columbia to record their debut self-titled record. Ellis Ludwig-Leone blends classical composition with post-rock and chamber pop on the 17 tracks who’s public debut began with the infectious single “Sonsick” on Stereogum. Butch Walker makes his MMR debut with the “Peachtree Battle” EP which he has dedicated to his late father. Out now on iTunes, the EP will be available on CD and vinyl 10/22. Toronto sweetheart Royal Wood debuted his new single “Forever and Ever” in the trailer for Massey Hall & Roy Thompson Hall’s 2013/2014 concert season, watch below.
Stereophonics make their MMR debut with the band’s 8th studio record “Graffiti On The Train”. The newly refined and cinematic Stereophonics features strings arranged by famed James Bond composer David Arnold and is produced by Jim Lowe. Catch them during their fall tour when they hit Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall September 25th. Will Sheff shares his autobiography on Okkervil River’s latest “The Silver Gymnasium”. The John Agnello-produced 11 songs take place in the small town of Meriden, New Hampshire in 1986 which Sheff has detailed in the interactive map made by NPR. Brooklyn’s post-punk newcomers Butter The Children revisit the ghosts of classic punk on “True Crime”. The EP is the stuff the best punk is made of: a sugary dose of loud guitars, muscular bass, tsunami drums and morose lyrics about dejected wanderers. Chet Faker’s hard to come by 2012 debut EP “Thinking In Textures” has been reissued on vinyl ahead of his upcoming album later this year.
Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings are set to release Jonathan Wilson’s ‘Fanfare’ on October 15. The record features vocal and instrumental contributions from Graham Nash, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Josh Tillman (aka Father John Misty), Wilco’s Patrick Sansone, and Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith, as well as Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. ‘Fanfare’ follows the success of Jonathan Wilson’s critically acclaimed 2011 debut Gentle Spirit, which was hailed by SPIN as “intricately produced and gently epic” and praised by Rolling Stone for its “gorgeously detailed folk-rock ambles.”
Jonathan Wilson recorded ‘Fanfare’ with engineer Bryce Gonzales over a nine-month period at Wilson’s Fivestar Studios in Echo Park. British folk legend Roy Harper co-wrote several of the songs on the album, which also features Wilson’s regular band members, Richard Gowen (drums), Dan Horne (bass), Omar Velasco (guitar) and Jason Borger (piano/organ). “There is a high degree of musical prowess and pedigree here. Cross-generational musical sharing and passing down traditions is very important to me and something that must continue,” Wilson says. “This is the way you keep the fanfares blowing. This is how you keep the energies interacting.”
Born and raised in North Carolina and now based in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, Jonathan Wilson arrived in Laurel Canyon in 2005 and is credited with helping to revive the neighborhood’s once-legendary music scene. As a sought-after producer, Wilson’s recent work includes albums by Father John Misty and Dawes.
Following their breakout 2012 “Act Naturally” EP with the infectious single “Wild”, Royal Teeth have released “Glow”. An engaging collection of indie-pop tracks, “Glow” celebrates the band’s thirst for exploration and youthful adventures into the unknown. Recorded this past winter in Toronto with producer Gavin Brown (Metric) Royal Teeth entered the studio focused and ready to showcase the energy and spirited joy of the live shows that have drawn audiences to the band all around the country. See Royal Teeth live in late August and September supporting Said The Whale and Rusted Root in the US.

“Melt” is the sultry new track from Chet Faker featuring Kilo Kish, and can be heard now via Soundcloud. Look for it as a digital single via Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings in the coming weeks, in conjunction with his upcoming 17 date North American tour. Kicking off September 3 in Los Angeles, the tour will include stops at Portland’s MusicfestNW, Montreal’s Club Lambi, The Laneway Festival in Detroit, The Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, and a show in New York City with recent collaborator Flume.
2013 has been a busy year for Chet Faker–the pseudonym Australian Nicholas Murphy crafted as an ode to Chet Baker’s singing style while incorporating influences from a youth spent producing house and disco. In addition to his first North American tour, and his hugely popular collaboration with fellow Australian Flume on the track “Left Alone,” he was also featured on the Swedish/Australian group Say Lou Lou’s track “Fool Of Me”–earning a “Best New Track” from Pitchfork.
Before Chet Faker, Murphy spent his time splitting his musical output between a penchant for soft and soulful singer-songwriter work and an appetite for electronic music production. But it was when he coupled his love of analogue instruments and sounds of early dance music–only this time slowing the tempo–with his natural ability for R&B-soaked vocals, that something truly exciting happened.
Chet is currently working on an EP with Flume and recording his debut album.

White Denim’s New Album ‘Corsicana Lemonade’ Is Set For An October 29th Release Via Downtown Records And MapleMusic Recordings
Listen To The First Single ‘Pretty Green’ HERE
Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings will release Corsicana Lemonade, the new studio album from Austin-based White Denim, on October 29. Featuring production on two songs and a full mix from iconic songwriter Jeff Tweedy, the 10-song collection channels the group’s manic live virtuosity into a rollicking 10-song mission statement.
The band will play the Austin City Limits Festival and tour the U.S. with Tame Impala this fall. Tickets are on sale now for the run, which will kick off at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO on October 8. In a live review, the LA Weekly observed, “it’s refreshing to see a band without pretense or shtick, whose only agenda is to play the hell out of their instruments and bring the audience along for the ride.” With ‘Corsicana Lemonade’, White Denim consciously set out to capture the feel of its lightning-rod live sets. “It’s taken five records to make one that sounds the way we do onstage,” says James Petralli, vocalist/guitarist for White Denim.
The album marks the first time White Denim has worked with outside producers. The band had found its time on the road with Wilco inspirational and turned to Jeff Tweedy, the GRAMMY®- winning group’s front man, as they prepared to record Corsicana Lemonade. Working at The Loft, Wilco’s Chicago headquarters /studio, White Denim recorded two tracks with Tweedy and his frequent production partner, Tom Schick (Rufus Wainwright, Ryan Adams), in March 2013. Upon returning to Austin, the band members built their own studio at a house on a cliff overlooking Lake Travis, where they recorded the remaining tracks with local music legend Jim Vollentine.
“We wheeled-in a bunch of crazy ’50s gear and played from noon until 2 a.m. every day until the album was done,” recalls Petralli. “We played live together, doing takes as a whole. Whatever sounded best was what we stuck with.” ‘Corsicana Lemonade’ is the follow-up to White Denim’s D, which was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone and MOJO and named by both publications as one of the 50 best albums of 2011. “Expect whiplash of the most intriguing, enjoyable kind,” said SPIN while Pitchfork praised D as “White Denim’s best-sounding effort yet.”
Since its formation in 2005 and first string of EPs in 2007, White Denim has steadily expanded its sound. From the rootsy classicism of Last Day Of Summer (2010) and noisy sun-soaked sizzle of Fits (2009) to the soft-edged riffage of D (2011), the group’s commitment to fiery live performance, textured exploration and blissful interludes has never wavered. It peaks on ‘Corsicana Lemonade’.

Critically acclaimed LA-based band Wildcat! Wildcat! are set to release their highly anticipated, self-titled debut EP September 10 on Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings. The band garnered critical praise for their previously released sold-out limited addition 7″ on the taste-making label Neon Gold Records, including early support from BBC Radio 1 in the U.K. TIME raves, “I love the staccato electronic rock, I love the frantic opening measures, I love the fleeting falsetto in the background,” while NYLON furthers,”Undoubtedly one of the best tracks we’ve heard all year…these guys certainly have more in store for 2013.” To celebrate the release, the band will embark on a North American tour starting in September.
The new EP was written and produced by the band in their home studios over the course of the last year and a half. Butter The Children Announces New EP ‘True Crime’ With Downtown Records & MapleMusic Recordings Out On August 20, 2013
Listen To Their First Single ‘Spit It Out’ HERE!
Butter The Children, a four-piece post-punk group of indie lifers from Brooklyn, is your new favorite band if you like your rock with both fangs and pop ambition. Fronted by Inna Mkrtycheva, the band includes Ray Weiss on guitar, J Boxer on bass, and Jordyn Blakely on drums.
Built from the seeds of countless cool-kid favorites (Sweet Bulbs, Night Manager, Fiasco, Le Rug) and the dust of deep-borough warehouse venues, Butter The Children successfully summons the ghosts of underground rock music history like few of their contemporaries.
On their debut EP True Crime, the band mixes the textured melancholy of The Smiths, C86 bands’ jangly guitars, the violently gauzy levitation of My Bloody Valentine and early Blondie’s sweetly-punk melodicism into a refreshingly loud, dangerous and pop-conscious dagger.
True Crime feels like those perfect old punk albums where there’s no excess – just a sugary dose of loud guitars, muscular bass, tsunami drums and morose lyrics about dejected wanderers.

Brooklyn’s San Fermin, led by songwriter and composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone, has announced a large string of live dates in support of their debut self-titled album – out September 17th on Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings. Starting with a spot at the Hopscotch Music Festival on September 7th in Raleigh, NC and making their across the continent to Vancouver, BC, San Fermin will be performing their beautiful take on chamber-pop all across North America.
Their sound, molded and influenced by Ludwig-Leone’s unique background in classical music, presents a unique pastiche of post-rock, chamber-pop, vocal harmony and classical orchestration into an amazing live show based around an eight-piece band of top-rate musicians.
In anticipation of these dates, Brooklyn producer Phaseone has remixed San Fermin’s first single “Sonsick”. The new remix is a complete makeover of the Pitchfork described “deliriously infectious summer jam,” delving into the white noise of the composition to create a hauntingly beautiful (and hip-hop nodding) rendition of the track.
