Legendary jam band Phish have returned with their 12th studio album ‘Fuego’. Originally reuniting out of genuinely wanting t hang out, eventually the band sat down to try to write in a way they never had before. Listen to guitarist Trey Anastasio and keyboardist Page McConnell talk about writing the songs across 5 notepads via NPR. The Philly-based group, consisting of The Starting Line’s Kenny Vasoli along with Body Language’s Matthew Young and Grant Wheeler, refine their months on the road into tighter and more powerful tracks. Dexter Tortoriello of Houses has followed up 2011′s ‘Blow’ EP with his debut solo LP ‘Still Life’ under the moniker Dawn Golden. The Fader premiered the video for lead single ‘All I Want’ about which Dexter said: ”We wanted to show the beauty and despair and impossible realities that might exist behind those moments of mania and delusion.” Dexter will head out on a North American tour in support of the record this Summer with dates to be announced soon. New Releases – Chet Faker ‘Built On Glass’, Thought Beneath Film ‘Cartographers’ & Jessica Lea Mayfield ‘Make My Head Sing’
Chet Faker‘s highly anticipated debut LP ‘Built On Glass’ delivers as the follow up to his acclaimed 2012 EP ‘Thinking In Textures’. Chet first teased the release with the stop motion video for lead single ‘Talk Is Cheap’ on Noisey along with his upcoming North American dates. See the full dates including Toronto’s The Hoxton on May 19th here. Thought Beneath Film release their anticipated debut full length ‘Cartographers’. Mixed and mastered by Grammy winners Tom Lord-Alge and Bob Ludwig respectively, and approved by Toronto legend Alan Cross, the Hamilton band has some heavy hitting names behind it. Kent, Ohio’s Jessica Lea Mayfield makes her MMR debut with ‘Make My Head Sing’ her self-proclaimed real rock record. Alabama’s legendary roots rockers Drive-By Truckers enter the double digits with their 10th studio album ‘English Oceans’. The record’s 13 tracks show an almost equal split of writing credits between co-front men Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, watch the band perform Cooley’s track ‘Made Up English Oceans’ in the Lyric Theater in Birmingham, Alabama. The boys are on a North American tour right now supported by Blitzen Trapper and Shovels & Rope, see full dates here. Ume (pronounced “Ooo-May”) make their MMR debut with ‘Monuments‘. The Austin band play the hard rock equivalent of IDM layering meaty chords and ripping lead lines with melodic keyboard. Listen to the first single to drop from ‘Monuments’ titled ‘Chase It Down’. The very first song SomeKindaWonderful recorded together, ‘Reverse’ premiered yesterday on Idolator and is now up on iTunes. Frontman Jordy Towers tells Idolator “‘Reverse’ is a story song told in reverse. It’s a true story actually … Something about telling a story in reverse is almost more emotional and revealing to me and it just naturally came out in that form when I wrote it.”
Chet Faker ‘Talk Is Cheap’ Video Premieres on Noisey – Full-Length Debut ‘Built On Glass’ Due April 15;
Chet Faker is set to release his debut album ’Built on Glass’ April 15th via MapleMusic Recordings and Downtown. Two years in the making it brings together all his influences from house to R&B and fuses it together with his smokey vocals. ‘Built on Glass’ will surely further cement Chet Faker as one of the most unique artists of 2014.
In 2011, Nicholas Murphy recorded a cover of ‘No Diggity’ late one night just for his friends. Shared by a handful of people, the song spread like wildfire until reaching #1 on the indie blog charts Hype Machine, and so the Chet Faker identity was born — a nod to Chet Baker’s singing style but incorporating influences from a youth spent producing house and disco.

San Fermin‘s current tour in support of their latest release, ’Live From The Advent Lutheran Church NYC‘ EP and self-titled debut, will bring them to Canada in February. The Brooklyn-based baroque rockers will play Casa del Popolo in Montreal on Feb. 14, The Garrison in Toronto on Feb. 15, and the Biltmore Cabaret in Vancouver on Feb. 28. In addition on Feb. 14, the band will perform live on CBC Radio’s Q with Jian Ghomeshi.
Formed by composer and songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone in 2011, San Fermin’s self-titled 2013 album — recorded at the Banff Centre in Alberta — was called “…a jarringly accomplished debut” by NPR, while Pitchfork described the album’s first single, ‘Sonsick,’ as “deliriously infectious.”
White Denim follow up 2011′s critically acclaimed “D” by capturing the feels of their live sets on “Corsicana Lemonade”. The Austin band performed first single ‘Pretty Green’ on David Letterman after dropping it just last month alongside a pretty green screened video. Don Brownrigg make his MMR debut with ‘It Takes All Kinds (To Make This World I Find)’. Written and recorded over a 2-year span in Nova Scotia by Don and producer Daniel Ledwell performing nearly every part on the album. Featuring the CBC-loved single ‘Sweet Dream Sleeper’ and ‘Just Breathe’ from his Southern Souls session. Forming from Andy Cabic’s backing band and moving West to Portland, Pure Bathing Culture‘s debut LP ‘Moon Tides’ is available now. The band premiered the much loved single ‘Pendulum’ on Gorilla VS Bear and followed it up with the fantastic stop motion video for ‘Dream The Dare’. Currently on the North American leg of their tour, they visit Toronto November 2nd at the Silver Dollar with Widowspeak.
Ten years on from their last release, The Dismemberment Plan return with ‘Uncanney Valley’. Travis Morrison detailed the album earlier this year in an interview with Noisey. The band heads out on their first tour since reuniting, hitting the US and the UK before the end of the year. Now three records deep, Jonathan Wilson’s latest ‘Fanfare’ is available now. Featuring vocal and instrumental contributions from Graham Nash, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Father John Misty, Wilco’s Patrick Sansone and more, the album celebrates friends and family. Jonathan is currently on tour in the UK and Europe but those itching to see him now can watch the video for ‘Dear Friend’.
Cold War Kids follow up this year’s killer comeback “Dear Miss Lonelyhearts” with the “Tuxedos” EP. Featuring two previously unreleased songs ”Romance Languages #2″ and “Pine St.”, a pair of covers, and two tracks from Lonelyhearts. The band continue their North American tour now through November, see dates here. Brooklyn’s San Fermin traveled to the mountainous border between Alberta and British Columbia to record their debut self-titled record. Ellis Ludwig-Leone blends classical composition with post-rock and chamber pop on the 17 tracks who’s public debut began with the infectious single “Sonsick” on Stereogum. Butch Walker makes his MMR debut with the “Peachtree Battle” EP which he has dedicated to his late father. Out now on iTunes, the EP will be available on CD and vinyl 10/22. Toronto sweetheart Royal Wood debuted his new single “Forever and Ever” in the trailer for Massey Hall & Roy Thompson Hall’s 2013/2014 concert season, watch below.
Stereophonics make their MMR debut with the band’s 8th studio record “Graffiti On The Train”. The newly refined and cinematic Stereophonics features strings arranged by famed James Bond composer David Arnold and is produced by Jim Lowe. Catch them during their fall tour when they hit Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall September 25th. Will Sheff shares his autobiography on Okkervil River’s latest “The Silver Gymnasium”. The John Agnello-produced 11 songs take place in the small town of Meriden, New Hampshire in 1986 which Sheff has detailed in the interactive map made by NPR. Brooklyn’s post-punk newcomers Butter The Children revisit the ghosts of classic punk on “True Crime”. The EP is the stuff the best punk is made of: a sugary dose of loud guitars, muscular bass, tsunami drums and morose lyrics about dejected wanderers. Chet Faker’s hard to come by 2012 debut EP “Thinking In Textures” has been reissued on vinyl ahead of his upcoming album later this year.
