Rhett Miller Of The Old 97′s Announces New Solo Album “The Traveller”

Pre-order “The Traveller” on iTunes HERE

Rhett Miller has been playing in touring bands (most notably, The Old 97′s) for the better part of 20 years. This fact alone certainly qualifies him as someone allowed to title his latest solo album titled ‘The Traveler,’ which will be released on May 12th via ATO Records and MapleMusic Recordings.

Although the album was written and performed by Miller he also had some help, most notably by the members of Black Prairie, a band based in Portland that plays everything from bluegrass to klezmer to country and shares members with The Decemberists. The band (Black Prairie) entered the studio with the singer (Rhett Miller) and briskly recorded the songs that make up this album (The Traveler). Additional guitar work was also added by Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey of REM.

The River and The Road Join The MapleMusic Recordings Family With New Album ‘Headlights’ Out May 12

the River and the Road Diner

Pre-order ‘Headlights’ HERE

MapleMusic Recordings is proud to announce its latest signing, the Vancouver based folk rockers The River and The Road, who will be releasing their sophomore album ‘Headlights‘ on May 12, 2015.  Produced and mixed by Jamey Koch (The Tragically Hip, Ron Sexsmith), the album was recorded in both Vancouver and Toronto.

Headlights‘ is at times a bold step away from the acoustic songwriting that initially drove them, a change that can be likened to the evolution of their live performances. What has become clear is that The River and The Road is a band that defies definition and is willing to take chances.  The album hums with a mosaic of harmonies and has a fluidity that is reminiscent of Crosby, Stills & Nash and Ryan Adams.  From the dazzling complexity of their ballad ‘Coulee (The Prairie Song),’ to the foot stompin’, head noddin’ ‘Child With A Gun’, to their infectious ‘Strange Disease‘ – this is one addictive and enduring record.

‘Space Is Still the Place’ encompasses the idea of a “Future South,” which was developed by the band after touring across the country, heavily in the South, over the last few years.

Praise for ‘Space Is Still The Place’:

No matter how much research you put into figuring out who will be the hottest new artists of each year, another act comes into your vision with an output that absolutely blows you away.” - The Huffington Post

“‘Slipstream’, is a lush, space-western odyssey. Rolling in with a plodding bass line and restrained drumming, the track builds slowly before a hypnotic guitar riff oozes into the mix.’” - Consequence of Sound

This band brings a live rawness that masterfully bleeds into their records. It’s an unmatched je ne sais quoi that makes their sound relatable to the listener and devoid of condescension.- Life + Times

The once psych-rock track [Infinite Cities (Francis Preve Remix)] has a whole new sound that may surprise you, as it has taken on a house beat to carry you straight onto the dance floor.- Earmilk

Taylor Knox Announces Debut Solo EP ‘Lines’

Ever since Pete Townshend coined the term “power pop” in 1967, fans, critics and musicians alike have clung to its principles of crunchy guitars, smooth harmonies and tales of tragic young love, in the never-ending battle to keep rock and roll’s flame burning brightly.

Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Taylor Knox is poised to make a significant contribution to the cause when his debut solo EP, Lines, is released March 31 on MapleMusic Recordings. With six tracks, each consistently clocking in at around three minutes, Lines is the perfect taste to get the unsuspecting listener permanently hooked on Knox’s irresistible sugar high. From opening track “My Backyard” to meditative closer “Good Enough” the Toronto native displays songwriting prowess far beyond his years, conjuring the magic of Big Star and Revolver-era Beatles.

Lead single “Fire” remembers to seize the day. “My friend’s restaurant burned down in a fire that started in the house next door,” says Knox. “One day everything was normal and the next day the restaurant was gone. It got me thinking about how things can change so quickly and you have to make the most of what you’ve got right now.”
