Singer/songwriter Megan Bonnell is thrilled to announce the official release date of her new album, Magnolia, with MapleMusic Recordings on April 15, 2016. Magnolia is a dynamic and emotionally endowed album that bares honest, raw and vulnerable songs. Album opener, Can’t Have You, exudes traces of romanticism. Like a handwritten love letter, it is a tender plea to let love go, “Lay me down if I can’t have you, Let me go if there’s nothing more that I can do.”

The EP was recorded at Dean St Studios in London that was previously Tony Visconti’s space for recording with T. Rex, David Bowie and more. “George Harrison’s old pump organ lives in this studio and that’s what you hear along with the guitar and vocal on ‘Mr. Rodriguez’,” Baxter explained.

Heather Rankin Set To Release Debut Solo Album A Fine Line On April 1st

 heatherrankin-afineline-digitalcover
Pre-Order Album Via iTunes NOW and at heatherrankin.ca

“I set out to make a solo record to empower myself to stand on my own, to speak from my heart and sing with my voice.”

Toronto, ON – January 25, 2016 – On April 1st Heather Rankin is set to release her debut solo album, A Fine Line, via MapleMusic Recordings. Best known for her recordings and performances with the multi-platinum selling musical group, The Rankin Family, Heather has created an 11 song collection produced by David Tyson (Co-writer/producer of Alannah Myles, Black Velvet and Amanda Marshall, Dark Horse). The new album includes a cover of Tears For Fears’ 1985 hit, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, featuring hip hop artist Quake Matthews. Fans are encouraged to follow Heather on Facebook and Twitter to take part in the creation of a video for Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Have a listen to the track now and pre-order the album at heatherrankin.ca.

After over twenty-five years of performing with her siblings, Heather Rankin comes into her own with A Fine Line. This is Heather like you have never heard her before, breaking away from The Rankin Family’s signature sound, and forging her own musical legacy with her poetic, intimate original songs, and an eclectic mix of others.

“When I set out to make this record I planned to record an entire CD of songs by other writers and I hoped to throw in a few of my own. As the project evolved I ended up cowriting seven of the eleven tracks with my producer, David Tyson.” Heather continues; “My executive producer, Frank Davies introduced the idea of recording a cover song from the 80’s. We collectively loved ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ by Tears For Fears and I realized that the lyric for this song resonated with me now more than ever.”

A Fine Line is an exploration of the balance between grief and joy, love and loss, and life and death. While the sound is distinctively Heather’s own, songs like We Walk As One conjure evocative imagery from the past she shared with her siblings, and with fans all over the world. A song like David Tyson’s Valentine is a heart-felt love song, poignant in its simplicity, where Rankin’s soaring, angelic voice is all that is needed to hit straight to the heart.

This is an exciting record and an exciting musical departure for Heather Rankin, who sold more than a million records as part of The Rankin Family, sang backup vocals on Carly Simon’s album The Bedroom Tapes, has been featured on the recordings of such artists as The Chieftains, Johnny Reid and Will Ackerman and will cohost the 2016 ECMA’s this April with Ashley MacIsaac. Perhaps the most dramatic sense of balance in A Fine Line is Rankin’s own graceful sense of balance between her own musical past, present and future. After more than two decades in the business, A Fine Line suggests that we are only now getting to know Heather Rankin. She has always been known as the youngest of The Rankin Family, but now, as a solo artist, in some ways, she sounds younger, and more timely, than ever.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Release ‘Paper Mâché Dream Balloon’

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is one of the most difficult bands to pin down. The Australian-based garage rock septet follows their collective muse wherever it chooses to lead them and for their seventh record they followed it to an all-acoustic opus titled ‘Paper Mâché Dream Balloon,’ released November 13, 2015 via ATO Records and MapleMusic Recordings.

While embracing the limitations of their choice of only acoustic sounds, KGATLW were able to get a little experimental as well. To fill it out, they borrowed a batch of instruments that they had never played before-clarinet, double bass, and cello, among them-and eked sounds and melodies out of them. That only helps to add to joyous jumble that is ‘Paper Mâché Dream Balloon.’ The result is a lovely, lilting pop masterpiece that still evokes the same intoxicating exuberance as KGATLW’s most recent work, but with a more pastoral, communal feel to it.

“Some of the most charming garage rock of the past five years” – KCRW

A pastoral psych-pop breeze laden with flutes and spiraling harmonies … just press play and let it win you over.” – Stereogum

“While Paper Mache’s rootsier sound, lush orchestration and Their Satanic Majesties Request twist on psychedelia will likely net the group a wider audience, they are already thinking of ways to appease fans of their extended jam sessions and punishing grooves.” – Relix

Over the past few years, a musical admiration between Chet Faker and Marcus Marr has grown, which culminated in a four-day sojourn in Marr’s South London studio earlier this year. Over the four day recording session, four songs were written, as the two discovered that Marr’s powerful, punchy dance production perfectly balanced Faker’s soulful vocals. The result is the 4-track EP ‘Work,’ out December 4 via Faker’s own label, Detail Records and Downtown Records and Fontana North.

Autre Ne Veut Set To Release ‘Age Of Transparency’ On October 2, 2015

Autre Ne Veut AOT Header

Pre-Order ‘Age Of Transparency’ Via iTunes HERE

Arthur Ashin, a.k.a. Autre Ne Veut, announces the release of  ‘Age of Transparency,’ a genre-bending album that manipulates and fuses jazz, electronic and alternative elements.  It will be released on October 2, 2015 via Downtown Records and Fontana North.

He also shares the video for lead single, ‘World War Pt. 2.’ (directed by BANGS, a.k.a Allie Avital). Citing Michael Haneke films Funny Games and Amour, where “the horrific and grotesque emerge from mundane, sunlight environments,” as inspirations, Avital says Ashin and she aimed to create “a metaphor for the many burdens we carry with us.”

‘Age of Transparency’ marks the second step in a trilogy exploring the difficulty of making personal connections in an impersonal time. “The title comes from marketing jargon,” Ashin explains.”It’s a term for the place we’re in now, where truth and transparency are just ways to sell things and honesty is its own kind of performance.” Coming from an artist who pushes his voice and body to their breaking points, it might seem like a strange admission. But for Ashin, close is as close as you can get.”Transparency is an impossibility,” he says. “It’s more about trying to be transparent and falling on your face in the process.”

Mas Ysa Shares New Track ‘Arrows’

Pre-Order ‘Seraph’ Via iTunes HERE

Today, Mas Ysa shares a new track ‘Arrows,’ an emotional club-banger from his upcoming debut album ‘Seraph,’ out July 24 on MapleMusic Recordings.

Mas Ysa, otherwise known as Thomas Arsenault, says of the track: “‘Arrows’ is sort of a Euro club banger, but also a very personal love song. It comes out of me wanting to make a universal, club-ready track but unwittingly giving into emotion.”

Creating ‘Seraph’ took the better part of a year – it was crafted in Arsenault’s home studio, received additional production help from Steve Rivette (Liars, Black Dice) and was mixed by Grammy-nominated Damian Taylor (Björk, Arcade Fire) – but the topics it covers have been haunting the musician for his entire life. “Thematically, there’s a lot of Catholic guilt and shame,” he says of the album, which is named for a kind of angel.  “I don’t set out to use specific sounds, but looking later at the pallet of choirs, clapping, castanets, flutes – I’ve realized that they are just comforting to me. I think that comes from going to church and coming from very large and close Ecuadorian and French-Canadian families. I don’t actively reference any culture’s sound or instruments, when I noticed later they were all over the place.”

Lucero Announce New Album ‘All A Man Should Do’ Set For A September 18 Release

k05a0964

On September 18, Lucero will release their new record ‘All A Man Should Do‘ via ATO Records and MapleMusic Recordings.  Following the release of 2012’s ‘Women and Work,’ Lucero’s new album contains some of the most resonant lyrics Ben Nichols has ever written. They read like chapters from his life: the duality of relationships, getting older, finding where you want to be in this world and more.

Working with producer Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Flogging Molly) for a third time at Memphis‘s Ardent Studios, the band felt comfortable enough to take some chances with a palette of new tones that sound understated yet powerful, bringing life to the stories behind the lyrics without overshadowing them.  And for the first time they put a cover song on a record, with a full band version of Big Star‘s ‘I Fell in Love with a Girl.’  The track features Jody Stephens from Big Star singing back-up vocals, making it that much more special.
