SOJA Returns August 12th With ‘Amid The Noise And Haste’

 Soja002[1]

“Reggae, infused with strains of rock, folk and dub, provides a complementary framework for lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Jacob Hemphill’s sinewy vocals and poignantly drawn lyrics of social resistance, environmental consciousness and personal reflection…” – Billboard

“The transcendental appeal of the Washington, D.C.- based SOJA has as much to do with their simply and traditionally constructed reggae tunes as it does with their universally appealing messages of hope and peace…” -- Relix

New LP from Washington D.C. reggae unit features guests Michael Franti and Damian Marley

‘Amid The Noise And Haste,’ released Aug. 12 through ATO Records/MapleMusic Recordings, was produced by multiple Grammy award-winning Jamaican producer Supa Dups (Bruno Mars, Eminem, Rihanna, John Legend) and is the first full-length album he has chosen to take on in his career. The new album is the follow up to SOJA’s critically acclaimed ‘Strength To Survive,’ which debuted in the Billboard Top 40. ‘Amid The Noise And Haste’ features special guests including Michael Franti, Damian Marley, and Collie Buddz.

The album’s cover art was designed by the British artist Steven Wilson from original wood carvings.

SOJA originally formed by a group of friends while still in middle school and has built a massive, dedicated fan base around the world since. SOJA has sold more than 250,000 albums, headlined shows in over 20 countries around the world, generated over 3.3 million Facebook fans, and 183+ million YouTube views. The band has toured with Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, 311 and appeared at major festivals including Bonnaroo where they attract an almost Grateful Dead-like international fan base along the way, with caravans of diehards following them from city to city.

SOJA’s Soulshine summer tour with Michael Franti & Spearhead, Brett Dennen and Trevor Hall kicked off in California and continues in amphitheaters across the country throughout August.

Full-length debut ‘No Moon At All’ out Aug. 5

L.A. indie-popsters WILDCAT! WILDCAT! are coming to Canada on their first headlining tour, stopping Tues. Aug. 5 in TORONTO at THE DRAKE and Wed. Aug. 6 in MONTREAL at LA VITROLA.

“They return with driving beats and lilting harmonies, adding in a celestial touch and crispness. The first single, ‘Hero,’ hints at a group of musicians who haven’t forgotten their roots, but simply choose to expand the ceiling of their growth.” — Paste

Wildcat! Wildcat!‘s debut full-length, ‘No Moon At All,’ out Aug. 5 on Downtown Records/MapleMusic Recordings, ties the trio’s indie-pop anthems into a cohesive widescreen vision. Packed with the Los Angeles-based band’s uplifting musicality and angelic harmonies, the ten-track album, which features production from M83′s Morgan Kibby, represents both a major artistic leap and the culmination of the group’s rise since ‘Mr. Quiche’ and their initial run of buzzy singles.

Featuring longtime friends Jesse Taylor (vocals, bass), Michael Wilson (vocals, keys) and Jesse Carmichael (vocals, drums), Wildcat! Wildcat! officially formed in 2012. Their early tracks, available as blog downloads and a single from the tastemaker label Neon Gold, led to the band’s 2013 self-titled debut EP on Downtown Records/MapleMusic Recordings, which received critical acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork, Time, Stereogum, Nylon, Paste, Huffington Post and more.

In early 2013, Wildcat! Wildcat! was the subject of the Sam Jones-directed documentary Hello Everywhere – a feature that depicted the band’s journey from LA to SXSW for a massive concert with Passion Pit. The group has also toured with Alt-J, Portugal. The Man and MS MR.

On ‘No Moon At All,’ Wildcat! Wildcat! achieve full headliner status. Its sweeping arc and range create an emotionally-rousing world for the band’s infectious underdog anthems. ‘Tower’ sets the tone with a dreamy build and explosive low-end, while lead single ‘Hero’ mixes the group’s innovative harmonies with dance production and an earworm chorus. ‘Holloway (Hey, Love),’ with its skyrocketing emotions, is sure to play over many-a-movie’s end credits, and ‘End Of The World Everyday’ is a slinky, bold ballad.

Garage-Blues Phenom Benjamin Booker Signs with ATO Records/MapleMusic Recordings

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset
Tour dates with Jack White set for July including Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on 7/31
First single ‘Violent Shiver’ available now - full-length debut to be released later in 2014

ATO Records/MapleMusic Recordings are excited to announce the signing of Benjamin Booker, a young New Orleans based singer-songwriter. Described as “a well-mixed musical cocktail of punk, folk, and New Orleans blues,” Booker cites his influences as The Gun Club, Blind Willie Johnson, and T. Rex.

Benjamin’s self-titled debut album, produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray For The Riff Raff) will be released in Fall 2014.

A 7″ of his first single, ‘Violent Shiver,’ backed with ‘Spoon Out My Eyeballs,’ will be released on May 13. Last week Zane Lowe premiered ‘Violent Shiver’ on his BBC Radio 1 show and NME named it as one of the “Tracks You Have To Hear This Week,” observing, “it’s made great by Benjamin Booker’s vocal, which is rough and loud and harsh with that all-American whiskey/cigarette/flu type of hoarseness… and his proficiency on the guitar hints at someone who’s been playing the instrument for most of his 20-odd years.”

Emma-Lee Releasing ‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’ April 29th

Emma Lee WWTPD_option1web

Those who know singer-songwriter Emma-Lee are well aware of her love — some might say obsession — with Tom Petty’s music. She is now one step closer to runnin’ down her dream of getting the rock legend’s attention with the release of ‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’ available as a digital single April 29th on MapleMusic Recordings.

The catalyst for this project occurred in 2012 during a group writing session in Los Angeles. As Emma-Lee and her collaborators Karen Kosowski and Justin Gray searched for a spark to get their creative juices flowing, somebody asked “what would Tom Petty do,” and the song came together almost immediately as a charming and clever tribute to the man and his music.

Language Arts Releasing ‘Wonderkind’ April 1

Wonderkind promo
ALBUM LAUNCH SHOW AT TORONTO’S HORSESHOE TAVERN APRIL 10

Wonderkind: 1. A feeling of surprise caused by a person, persons or things with beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable traits. 2. A curiosity or sense of caution or suspicion due to the benevolent disposition of a person.

Language Arts is the brainchild of Toronto-based guitarist, composer and singer Kristen Cudmore. “Language Arts’ sound is really a marriage between jazz schoolers and me, the classically trained one … I attract it without realizing it,” Cudmore says about her bandmates, drummer Neil MacIntosh, keyboardist Joel Visentin and current bassist Soren Nissen (Joe Ernewein played bass in the studio).

The group’s new full-length album ‘Wonderkind,’ recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Darryl Neudorf (Neko Case, Sarah McLachlan), brilliantly marries Cudmore’s raw emotions with a dizzying array of musical styles — indie pop, hip-hop and prog-rock among them — all drawn from her boundless imagination that has become equally innovative and uplifting.

In short, ‘Wonderkind’ formally heralds the arrival of a powerful new Canadian voice, one squarely in the same league as other current iconoclastic female artists such as St. Vincent, tUnE-yArDs and Grimes.
