It is with great enthusiasm that MapleMusic Recordings announces Mas Ysa‘s [pronounced MAAS ee-sa] first live appearances of 2015 – it will be an extensive tour that will find him supporting Young Fathers through April and in to May. In anticipation of these shows and the changing  season; Mas Ysa (otherwise known as the Montreal-born visionary pop auteur Thomas Arsenault) is eager to share a new track for the Spring: ‘Look Up.’

‘Look Up’ may seem familiar to those who spent time with last year’s critically acclaimed ‘Worth‘ EP: it’s chordal seeds were set in the short instrumental track ‘Yes‘.  In 2014, Mas Ysa took his rig on the road, touring the country with Delorean, EMA and Hundred Waters through appearances at a number of festivals both domestic and overseas. On the stages of SXSW, Primavera Sound, The Pitchfork Music Festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Hopscotch, NOS Primavera Sound and Splendor In The Grass, ‘Look Up’ remained a live staple and fan favorite.

the River and the Road Diner

Pre-order ‘Headlights’ HERE

MapleMusic Recordings is proud to announce its latest signing, the Vancouver based folk rockers The River and The Road, who will be releasing their sophomore album ‘Headlights‘ on May 12, 2015.  Produced and mixed by Jamey Koch (The Tragically Hip, Ron Sexsmith), the album was recorded in both Vancouver and Toronto.

Headlights‘ is at times a bold step away from the acoustic songwriting that initially drove them, a change that can be likened to the evolution of their live performances. What has become clear is that The River and The Road is a band that defies definition and is willing to take chances.  The album hums with a mosaic of harmonies and has a fluidity that is reminiscent of Crosby, Stills & Nash and Ryan Adams.  From the dazzling complexity of their ballad ‘Coulee (The Prairie Song),’ to the foot stompin’, head noddin’ ‘Child With A Gun’, to their infectious ‘Strange Disease‘ – this is one addictive and enduring record.

JUNO-Nominated Singer-Songwriter Peter Katz Announces March 31 Release For ‘We Are The Reckoning’

PK_8490

“If you want to make something that’s like nothing you’ve made before, then you have to shake yourself up, go beyond what’s comfortable and known and let yourself feel disoriented, overwhelmed, even intimidated.  Those moments, where you lose your bearings, where you’re forced to sink or swim, are the moments where you have an opportunity to rise to the occasion, to surprise yourself, to do the things you didn’t know you could do. That’s what making this album was for me, I’m so proud of the process, and I’m so proud of the result.”Peter Katz

JUNO nominated singer-songwriter Peter Katz, who recently signed a label deal with Maple Music Recordings/Fontana North, announced today the March 31 release of his brand new album “We Are The Reckoning”.  Katz announced the release in addition to the premiere of the albums lead single and video “Brother”.  Featuring long-time friend and multi-talented Canadian artist Royal Wood, the track is a heartfelt, uplifting tribute to relationships built and bonds forged.  “We Are The Reckoning” is available now to pre-order on iTunes with an instant download of the single “Brother” (ft. Royal Wood).

Three years in the making “We Are The Reckoning” follows 2012’s “Still Mind Still” which paved the way for three successful national and international tours.  The new album, documents the evolution of Katz’s artistic vision and the realization that he needed to make a change and progress creatively in order to be heard with fresh ears, for the ‘first time’ – again.

‘Sound & Color’ Alabama Shakes’ New Album Set For Release On April 21

Pre-Order ‘Sound & Color’ Via iTunes HERE

Sound & Color – the follow-up to Alabama Shakes‘ Gold-certified debut album, Boys & Girls, which earned the group three GRAMMY® nominations, including a nod for Best New Artist – will be released on April 21 by ATO Records and MapleMusic Recordings.

Sound & Color demonstrates the tremendous strides made by Alabama Shakes since the release of 2012′s Boys & Girls. From the gently swaying, chiming title song to the garage-rock freak-out on “The Greatest” to the psychedelic space jam “Gemini,” Alabama Shakes build on the soulful blues-rock base and map a surprising, innovative new direction.

“We took our time to write this record, and I’m really glad we did,” says lead singer/guitarist Brittany Howard. “We were able to sit down and think about what’s exciting to us. This record is full of genre-bending songs.”

Sound & Color was recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium studio. The band co-produced the album with Blake Mills - a young guitar wizard who has helmed sessions by Sara Watkins and Sky Ferreira, and played alongside everyone from Norah Jones and The Dixie Chicks to Lana Del Ray and Kid Rock.

Other Lives Announce New Record ‘Rituals’ To Be Released On May 5

other lives
Download ‘Reconfiguration’ instantly with pre-orders of ‘Rituals’ on iTunes

Other Lives are returning with ‘Rituals‘ via MapleMusic Recordings and tbd records on May 5th. The 14-song LP is their most lush, layered, and striking musical creation to date, as well as the band’s third full-length album.

Other Lives is comprised of Josh Onstott, Jonathon Mooney and Jesse Tabish. Rituals is a pure encapsulation of the band’s relentless drive for precision. The trio relocated to Portland, Oregon from their hometown of Stillwater, Oklahoma to record the album. Tabish says the relocation had a direct influence that can be heard throughout Rituals.

“There was a spirit of change,” Tabish offers. “We had done [2011's second LP] Tamer Animals, which was very close to us and about our home. So the next record was about the spontaneity of travel and being isolated. For the first times in our lives we were moving off on our own away from our families and kind of coming into our own. I wanted the songs to reflect that new spirit.”

Bop English – AKA White Denim’s James Petralli – To Release Debut Album ‘Constant Bop’ April 14, 2015!

bop english
Pick Up ‘Dani’s Blues’ Via iTunes HERE

Bop English, the recording name of White Denim front-man James Petralli as announced a debut record titled ‘Constant Bop‘ that will be released April 14 on Fontana North and Downtown Records.  In the making for over four years, Constant Bop is a widely collaborative project which features production from Jim Vollentine, 5th Street Studio’s Ryan Joseph and Nick Joswick, as well as Matt Oliver of Big Orange Studios and the band TV Torso. Constant Bop is the result of years of persistence and determination, having been created in the same period of time that it took Petralli to finish two White Denim records. It is an album born of real studio magic; dozens of musicians contribute to its ten tracks including White Denim’s drummer Josh Block, guitarist Austin Jenkins and bass player Steve Terebecki, as well as former Shearwater bassist Kevin Schneider.

For this record, James Petralli didn’t want to be James Petralli. Not in a self-loathing, melodramatic way, but in the same way that Vanilla Ice probably didn’t want to be Robert Matthew Van Winkle. The name Bop English stems from a series of events earlier in James’ life, when he befriended Andy Pickett, a drifter he played music with. After James had left for college in Nacogdoches in the summer of ’99, he heard through a friend back home that Andy was struggling with employment. James drove home, found Andy and offered to share his college room with him. Andy ended up writing a book, and what Andy dictated, James typed. The end result was ‘The Chaperito Street Metaphor’, which Andy dedicated to Bop English. When James asked who Bop English was, Andy’s response was “that’s you man!”

“Sparkling indie pop numbers like “With You” are juxtaposed with quieter, folk-inspired numbers like “Render,” “Starry Eyes” and “Seventeen.” Others like “Kingdoms” and “Extinguishing Fires” lean towards good, old-fashioned rock’n'roll, making for an album that delivers a seamless blend of different sounds.”
