LA producer, songwriter and DJ Goldroom releases his new EP ‘It’s Like You Never Went Away‘ via Downtown Records and Fontana North today. The four song EP was produced by Goldroom and features collaborations with rising female vocalists including Australian soul-pop star George Maple, Chela, Kayslee Collins and Nikki Segal. The music will roll out this week via a series of videos premiering exclusively on Snapchat Discover, making ‘It’s Like You Never Went Away,’ the first EP to debut on the platform. The videos will be released consecutively over four days, collectively telling a story.
Drawing unexpected songwriting inspiration from artists like Tom Petty and Ryan Adams, Goldroom turned to Southern California to create his nostalgic sound. He originally wrote the four tracks on an acoustic guitar before recording them in studio, giving the EP a melodic, effortless feel. Goldroom has produced an EP that’s a perfect antidote to the fist-pumping, club-centric culture that many associate with the genre. He’s captured the chill vibes of summertime in LA, infusing them with tropical textures. The first single ‘Embrace‘ layers George Maple’s emotive vocals on top of the dreamy synth-pop track, creating an anthemic summertime song. Kayslee Collins teams up with Goldroom on the breezy ‘Tradewinds‘, while Nikki Segal adds her airy vocals to the beat-heavy ‘California Rain.’ On ‘Fifteen,’ Chela’s celestial voice accompanies Goldroom’s soulful, nostalgic pop.
Goldroom (aka Josh Legg) has garnered praise from Pitchfork, Fader, MTV, The Guardian (Band of the Week) and more, also earning ‘most blogged about’ honors on Hype Machine. He’s toured extensively, playing a range of festivals from SXSW and Firefly to EDM gatherings like Ultra Music Festival. Dubbed “one of Los Angeles’ dance music tastemakers” by Billboard, he’ll play several North American festival dates this summer with his live four-piece band, including resident singer Nikki Segal.

New Release: The River And The Road ‘Headlights’, Rhett Miller ‘The Traveler’, Mas Ysa ‘Margarita’ & Ex Cops ‘Black Soap (Eli Escobar Remix)’
The River And The Road’s new 10 track album ‘Headlights‘ is at times a bold step away from the acoustic songwriting that initially drove them, a change that can be likened to the evolution of their live performances. 2015 will see the band’s sights set firmly on the road, including a cross-Canada tour in support of the album and a summer festival schedule including Squamish Valley Music Festival, RiverFest in Elora, Ontario and TURF in Toronto. Rhett Miller’s (the lead singer of boozy raucous rockers The Old 97s) new solo album ‘The Traveler‘ is available now! ‘The Traveler‘ showcases a relentless and seemingly ageless songwriter honed by years on the road with the help of Black Prairie (a band that shares members of The Decemberists) and producer Chris Funk. Mas Ysa has shared his second new track since the Worth EP, listen to the tropical jam ‘Margarita‘ below and hear his other recent song ‘Look Up‘ here.
Sound & Color – the follow-up to Alabama Shakes‘ Gold-certified debut album, Boys & Girls - demonstrates the tremendous strides made by the band. From the gently swaying, chiming title song to the garage-rock freak-out on “The Greatest” to the psychedelic space jam “Gemini,” Alabama Shakes build on the soulful blues-rock base and map a surprising, innovative new direction. See the Shakes live when they come up to Canada headlining Toronto’s Field Trip festival and hit the west coast for Squamish Valley Music Festival. San Fermin bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone wrote Jackrabbit by himself from start to finish, only to find that after a year testing the songs on the road the album wasn’t nearly finished. Ellis explains, “I went from being this isolated composer guy, out in the woods, to sitting in the back of a van with seven other members playing shows in rock clubs every night. When I got back, I revisited it all, ripped these holes in the middle of all the existing songs and added some new songs. I rethought everything I had been writing.” Watch the full band performing “Emily” and the “title track” live via their YouTube.
Bop English, the recording name of White Denim frontman James Petralli who has released his solo debut Constant Bop today. The ten tracks James decided on for the record demonstrate an encyclopedic knowledge of songwriting, revisiting everything from Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne to LL Cool J and Santana for inspiration. Austin psychedelic rock outfit The Bright Light Social Hour announces the release of their sophomore album, Space Is Still the Place on March 10, 2015 via MapleMusic Recordings and Frenchkiss Records. The 10-track collection was written, performed, produced and engineered by the band at their home studio in Austin, TX, and mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, TV On The Radio, Future Islands).
The Bright Light Social Hour convened while Curtis Roush and Jack O’Brien attended graduated school together at the University of Texas in Austin. Following graduation, they released their first self-titled LP in 2010. In the months and years that followed, their songs won over their hometown, and they scored an unprecedented six awards at the SXSW 2011 Austin Music Awards.
Space is Still the Place encompasses the idea of a “Future South,” which was developed by the band after touring across the country, heavily in the South, over the last few years. While on the road, the band usually stayed with people in various cities instead of hotels and gained a new perspective on the struggle young Americans faced after experiencing it first-hand.
The entire MMR team couldn’t be more excited to launch the debut album from one of Toronto’s finest outfits! CAIRO worked with producer Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run, Mother Mother) crafting ‘A History Of Reasons’ and have translated their captivating and expansive live sound perfectly onto record. Experience the album in person when their Canadian tour beings in early spring. Watch the video for the title track directed by Czlowiek Kamera on YouTube here.
