“It wouldn’t be hard to picture the members of CAIRO chopping up a soundtrack for Darren Aronofsky or the like.” – CMJ.com

“The love child of Gotye and Arcade Fire.” – SiriusXM Discover Music Canada

“CAIRO is a band that has impressed us not only with their musical talent, but with the savvy they have displayed in making this album.” – Coalition Music

We take because we are fragile, because we know it never really matters who we were meant to be. What matters is that we do more than just tiptoe forward. That we assemble the worn versions of the things we take into messy piles – to keep from forgetting or maybe just so we know what to forget and what to keep.

CAIRO is the soundtrack to the things we have taken and left behind. They are the soundtrack to both taking and leaving, the nuance of a 2 a.m. exhale or a pretty pair of eyes in a crowded room. They are the cadence of everyday life.

People should not get along so well. It’s strange. Unsettling, even. But they do. When one falters, the others create symmetry.

You could call it folk. Or rock. Or ambience. Or experimental. But that would be denying the parts that make a whole. It’s real! It’s personal! It is love! Yes, love! That messy gooey thing that we so desperately hope will make us whole. We can all agree on this, can we not?

It’s absurd that CAIRO works. But to understand why it does, you only need to listen to ‘A History of Reasons,’ their full-length debut album, out Jan. 20, 2015 on MapleMusic Recordings, co-produced by the band and Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run, Air Marshal Landing).

Pre-order ‘A History Of Reasons’ via the band’s PledgeMusic campaign.

‘It Takes All Kinds (to make this world, I find) is the unique
tinyrecordscanadaMapleMusic Recordings debut from
the multi-talented east-coaster, Don Brownrigg and is set for
release on October 22, 2013.

With a full length album already under his belt (he released Wander Songs on weewerk in 2007) Brownrigg is an expert in bringing his charisma to the live stage.   He has a rich voice, filled with experience and wisdom, and he enthrals audiences with his storytelling and eloquent serenades.

In a country known for multi-talented singer/songwriters, the Halifax-based Brownrigg (via Codroy Valley, Newfoundland) has written 10 honest and vivid songs resulting in an absolutely stunning album.  Recorded in Nova Scotia over a two-year time span with producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant) at the helm, the album exudes both commerciality (Sweet Dream Sleeper/When The Heart Resigns) and credibility (Fight For Your Castle/No Smoke, No Gun) at the same time. The record also showcases the wide range of musicality of the pairing – with Daniel contributing trumpet, trombone, bass, guitar, keyboard and whistle skills – while Don took the lead with vocals, guitar, piano, keyboard and accordion.

A virtuoso performer who has toured with the likes of Serena Ryder, Shawn Colvin and Great Lake Swimmers – Brownrigg has set himself apart with his captivating honesty and take on life. “There’s love, there’s loss, there’s hope, there’s regret,” says Brownrigg. “There’s seriousness and there’s silliness. I like it that way. It keeps you thinking about the good and the bad in everything. It takes all kinds.”
