Vocalist Nathan Willet describes the album with lyrics from its title track: “You’ve moved every year or two since you were 18. Home is no longer an actual place you return to. It’s ephemeral; it’s where you go in your memory to recall friends, your identity, your version of family. You can’t touch or hold on to it, but you can feel home anywhere. But where are your roots?” Watch the video for the first single “All This Could Be Yours” or the anthemic follow up “First.”

Primus Return Oct. 21 With ‘Primus & The Chocolate Factory’

Pre-Order Album Via Primus’ Online Store Or iTunes

The definitive Primus line-up - Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde, and drummer Tim Alexander - is back together and set to release their first full-length studio set in nearly 20 years, ‘Primus & the Chocolate Factory,’ due out on ATO Records / MapleMusic Recordings on October 21.

“The idea was to combine the Frog Brigade and Primus, and do this record,’ says Claypool. I think like a good portion of the planet, we were all pretty put off by the remake of the ‘Willy Wonka’ movie – the Tim Burton version. I really wanted to pay homage to a film [1971's 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,' starring Gene Wilder] that was very important to me as a kid and very influential to me musically. So that’s what we did. And as opposed to just going in and recording the songs and playing them the way they are in the film, we twisted them up a bit…twisted them up a lot.” Listen to classic track ‘Pure Imagination’ re-imagined, which Rolling Stone premiered in July

It felt so good, in fact, Claypool decided to take Primus into the studio to prepare the soundtrack for an album release. Claypool admits he’s always, “in some way, wanted to be Willy Wonka,” and, also, that he’s always wanted to work a cover of ‘The Candy Man’ – a memorable number from the film’s soundtrack — into Primus sets. “Hell, I’ve been doing the line from the boat ride on stage since the ’80′s,” then Les sings, “There’s no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going…”

New Releases – Mas Ysa ‘Worth’ EP & Duo De Twang ‘Four Foot Shack’

Montreal-born producer Thomas Arsenault makes his MapleMusic Recordings debut as Mas Ysa with his ‘Worth’ EP. The album’s first single ‘Why’ received Best New Track from Pitchfork ahead of the hockey-themed & self-directed video featuring his brother Nicholas Arsenault. Mas Ysa (pronounced MAAS ee-sa) will head out on a West Coast tour with Lawrence Rothman in February and comes to Toronto for NXNE in June.

Everyone’s favourite story-teller Les Claypool has paired with his old buddy Bryan Kehoe as Duo De Twang to release their debut record ‘Four Foot Shack’. Featuring covers ranging from the best of the Primus catalogue (‘Jerry Was A Racecar Driver’ & ‘Winona’s Big Brown Beaver’) to Bee Gees ‘Stayin’ Alive’ and Alice In Chains ‘Man in The Box’ all recorded in the signature foot-stomping Americana style. “It was very live,” admits Les. “In fact, it was a little difficult, with all the bleed of the stomping and the bass and the vocals. Every now and again you can hear the studio refrigerator come on or the dog barking at something outside in the background. Once it was there, you had to kind of leave it.” Duo De Twang tour the U.S. in March along with a stop at the SXSW festival that month.

Primus’ Les Claypool Announces New Duo De Twang Album ‘Four Foot Shack’

Four Foot Shack
Album Out February 4th Via ATO Records & MapleMusic Recordings

How “deconstructed” can a group get? How about just one vocal, one bass, one guitar, and a basic beat supplied by stomping on a mini-tambourine-doohickey? That’s exactly what everyone’s favourite storyteller/narrator, Les Claypool, is incorporating in his new band, Duo de Twang. While Les is still pulling double duty with the Primus lads, he has also found the time to unite with his old buddy, Bryan Kehoe, who fans will recognize from several past Claypool projects, and also as one of the main actors from Les’ hilarious jam band mockumentary, ‘Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo.‘ But unlike Primus, DDT focuses more on the Americana/rootsy side of things – as heard throughout the band’s debut recording ‘Four Foot Shack’, to be released via ATO Records and MapleMusic Recordings on February 4th.
