Vacationer Canadian Tour Dates Set For November

vacationerbio2

Vacationer, the collaborative effort from Philadelphia-based vocalist/producer Kenny Vasoli and his production partners Grant Wheeler and Matthew Young (Body Language), today premiered the video for ‘Go Anywhere’ at Paste.com.

‘Go Anywhere’ is the second single from Vacationer’s acclaimed sophomore album ‘Relief,’ released earlier this year on Downtown Records/Fontana North. The video was shot in Glenmoore, PA by director/producer Matt Albasi, who wanted to capture Vacationer’s dreamy, escapist vibes. The idea was simple: put the band in a hot air balloon and film it. It was a perfect fit.

Vacationer is currently on a North American tour, which makes stops in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Toronto in November. See full dates below for details.

Primus Return Oct. 21 With ‘Primus & The Chocolate Factory’

Pre-Order Album Via Primus’ Online Store Or iTunes

The definitive Primus line-up - Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde, and drummer Tim Alexander - is back together and set to release their first full-length studio set in nearly 20 years, ‘Primus & the Chocolate Factory,’ due out on ATO Records / MapleMusic Recordings on October 21.

“The idea was to combine the Frog Brigade and Primus, and do this record,’ says Claypool. I think like a good portion of the planet, we were all pretty put off by the remake of the ‘Willy Wonka’ movie – the Tim Burton version. I really wanted to pay homage to a film [1971's 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,' starring Gene Wilder] that was very important to me as a kid and very influential to me musically. So that’s what we did. And as opposed to just going in and recording the songs and playing them the way they are in the film, we twisted them up a bit…twisted them up a lot.” Listen to classic track ‘Pure Imagination’ re-imagined, which Rolling Stone premiered in July

It felt so good, in fact, Claypool decided to take Primus into the studio to prepare the soundtrack for an album release. Claypool admits he’s always, “in some way, wanted to be Willy Wonka,” and, also, that he’s always wanted to work a cover of ‘The Candy Man’ – a memorable number from the film’s soundtrack — into Primus sets. “Hell, I’ve been doing the line from the boat ride on stage since the ’80′s,” then Les sings, “There’s no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going…”

Hurray For The Riff Raff Launches ‘The Body Electric Fund Via Indiegogo

Indiegogo campaign aims to fight hate and violence
New song ‘Everybody Knows (For Trayvon Martin)’ premieres at Time.com

Hurray For The Riff Raff has just launched a fundraising campaign via Indiegogo for The Body Electric Fund which will raise money for organizations combatting violent crime and the degradation of marginalized communities.

Donations to the Indiegogo campaign, running through October 22, will support both the creation of a video for ‘The Body Electric,’ from the group’s acclaimed 2014 debut album Small Town Heroes, that will raise awareness of violence against women, minorities and LGBT groups and a variety of organizations working to promote peace for those in these communities, including The Third Wave Fund and The Trayvon Martin Foundation. See more on the campaign at Indiegogo.

“The process of writing ‘The Body Electric’ was very powerful for me,” says Hurray For The Riff Raff’s Alynda Lee Segarra. “I felt the waves of a 26-year span of desires to see all women free from violence crash into me. It was anger, a desire for justice and a dream of change. I hope to use our platform as a band to shine the spotlight on those organizations that do the work that can truly change our futures.”

The band hopes to raise $20,000 to fund the creation of ‘The Body Electric’ video and The Body Electric Fund. $10,000 will go toward the making of a music video to shed light on violence among not only women but also minorities and the LGBT community. After the video expenses have been met, the rest of the money raised will go to The Body Electric Fund. The Body Electric Fund is powered by RPM, a nonprofit agency that provides artists with strategy and support for their activism and philanthropy.

taylor knox

Toronto singer-songwriter will preview tracks from new EP set for early 2015 release

Taylor Knox, part of the new and exciting crop of signings to MapleMusic Recordings, will join his compadres Zeus and The Golden Dogs for a three-week run of dates in Ontario and Quebec that promises power-pop perfection.

Knox will be previewing material from his debut MapleMusic Recordings release, an as-yet-untitled EP slated for an early 2015 release.

The upcoming tour will be a reunion of sorts, as Knox began his musical career as a member of The Golden Dogs, which over the course of his tenure included three of the four future members of Zeus. The young multi-instrumentalist has also performed with Rich Aucoin, Hayden, Jason Collett, and Luke Doucet, as well as produced records for artists such as Jane’s Party and Wax Atlantic. Knox’s own new material will feature contributions from Sloan’s Andrew Scott and other associates.

“My plan was always to put out my own music, but these opportunities kept coming up to play with my favourite musicians,” Knox says. “I ended up moving into an apartment above Zeus’ Ill Eagle studio, which allowed me to really start making some good recordings. I’d ask over friends like Andrew to help out and it feels really good to have these songs start to be heard.”

Mapei Announced As Main Support On Upcoming Lykke Li Tour

Mapei lykke li
Playing Toronto’s Kool Haus on Sept. 30 – Tickets Here
Debut album ‘Hey Hey’ out Sept. 23

Mapei has announced that she will be the main support for Lykke Li, a fellow Stockholm native and her one-time roommate, on her 14-date tour this fall. Kicking-off in Seattle on September 17, Mapei and Lykke will tour across America, including an appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and more dates to be announced.

“I am beyond excited and thrilled to announce that my dear friend Mapei will come on tour with me,” says Lykke Li. “It is insanely symbolic to me as she’s been my idol ever since I saw her the first time when I was 17. She was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen and she dared me to follow my dream…. First stop was her Bushwick apartment and many open mics, bruised hearts, blood, sweat and tears later we will join forces again to tour America. Don’t you dare miss it.”

This marks Mapei’s second major US run this year. She will also be performing on select dates with nine-time Grammy Award-winner John Legend this month as part of his amphitheater tour.

Tom Petty Comments on Emma-Lee’s ‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’ in Rolling Stone

emma lee rolling stone

Emma-Lee set for Aug. residency at Toronto’s Cameron House
‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’ on iTunes

It may be premature to say “mission accomplished,” but Emma-Lee has at least achieved her primary goal having her new single, “What Would Tom Petty Do?” reach the ears of the man himself.

In the current issue of Rolling Stone, Petty comments on the song during his Q&A with David Fricke. When asked about his influence on the current generation of singer-songwriters, Petty specifically mentions Emma-Lee’s single, adding, “I don’t know what Tom Petty would do. But thanks for asking.”

More About ‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’:

The catalyst for this project occurred in 2012 during a group writing session in Los Angeles. As Emma-Lee and her collaborators Karen Kosowski and Justin Gray searched for a spark to get their creative juices flowing, somebody asked “what would Tom Petty do,” and the song came together almost immediately as a charming and clever tribute to the man and his music.

After raising money in large part though a Kapipal crowd-funding campaign, Emma-Lee recorded the track in Toronto with renowned producer Gavin Brown (Metric, Billy Talent). She then returned to L.A. to shoot a video, which puts her own twist on some of the well-loved clips TP made in the 1990s. Together, she says, the single and video are her best shot at attaining her ultimate goal of writing a song with the artist who has inspired her most.
