Taylor Knox Signs to MapleMusic Recordings & Announces Tour Dates with Zeus and The Golden Dogs

taylor knox

Toronto singer-songwriter will preview tracks from new EP set for early 2015 release

Taylor Knox, part of the new and exciting crop of signings to MapleMusic Recordings, will join his compadres Zeus and The Golden Dogs for a three-week run of dates in Ontario and Quebec that promises power-pop perfection.

Knox will be previewing material from his debut MapleMusic Recordings release, an as-yet-untitled EP slated for an early 2015 release.

The upcoming tour will be a reunion of sorts, as Knox began his musical career as a member of The Golden Dogs, which over the course of his tenure included three of the four future members of Zeus. The young multi-instrumentalist has also performed with Rich Aucoin, Hayden, Jason Collett, and Luke Doucet, as well as produced records for artists such as Jane’s Party and Wax Atlantic. Knox’s own new material will feature contributions from Sloan’s Andrew Scott and other associates.

“My plan was always to put out my own music, but these opportunities kept coming up to play with my favourite musicians,” Knox says. “I ended up moving into an apartment above Zeus’ Ill Eagle studio, which allowed me to really start making some good recordings. I’d ask over friends like Andrew to help out and it feels really good to have these songs start to be heard.”

Mapei Announced As Main Support On Upcoming Lykke Li Tour

Mapei lykke li
Playing Toronto’s Kool Haus on Sept. 30 – Tickets Here
Debut album ‘Hey Hey’ out Sept. 23

Mapei has announced that she will be the main support for Lykke Li, a fellow Stockholm native and her one-time roommate, on her 14-date tour this fall. Kicking-off in Seattle on September 17, Mapei and Lykke will tour across America, including an appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and more dates to be announced.

“I am beyond excited and thrilled to announce that my dear friend Mapei will come on tour with me,” says Lykke Li. “It is insanely symbolic to me as she’s been my idol ever since I saw her the first time when I was 17. She was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen and she dared me to follow my dream…. First stop was her Bushwick apartment and many open mics, bruised hearts, blood, sweat and tears later we will join forces again to tour America. Don’t you dare miss it.”

This marks Mapei’s second major US run this year. She will also be performing on select dates with nine-time Grammy Award-winner John Legend this month as part of his amphitheater tour.

Tom Petty Comments on Emma-Lee’s ‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’ in Rolling Stone

Emma-Lee set for Aug. residency at Toronto’s Cameron House
‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’ on iTunes

It may be premature to say “mission accomplished,” but Emma-Lee has at least achieved her primary goal having her new single, “What Would Tom Petty Do?” reach the ears of the man himself.

In the current issue of Rolling Stone, Petty comments on the song during his Q&A with David Fricke. When asked about his influence on the current generation of singer-songwriters, Petty specifically mentions Emma-Lee’s single, adding, “I don’t know what Tom Petty would do. But thanks for asking.”

More About ‘What Would Tom Petty Do?’:

The catalyst for this project occurred in 2012 during a group writing session in Los Angeles. As Emma-Lee and her collaborators Karen Kosowski and Justin Gray searched for a spark to get their creative juices flowing, somebody asked “what would Tom Petty do,” and the song came together almost immediately as a charming and clever tribute to the man and his music.

After raising money in large part though a Kapipal crowd-funding campaign, Emma-Lee recorded the track in Toronto with renowned producer Gavin Brown (Metric, Billy Talent). She then returned to L.A. to shoot a video, which puts her own twist on some of the well-loved clips TP made in the 1990s. Together, she says, the single and video are her best shot at attaining her ultimate goal of writing a song with the artist who has inspired her most.

Minus The Bear Announces ‘Lost Loves’ Out Oct. 7

Fall U.S. Club Tour Announced

Minus The Bear will release its latest LP, ‘Lost Loves,’ on October 7th via Dangerbird Records/MapleMusic Recordings. The seasoned Seattle, WA five-piece will embark on a club tour this fall in support of the new album as well as the 10th anniversary re-release of their fan favorite EP, ‘They Make Beer Commercials Like This.’

For a band that routinely sells out 1000+ capacity venues across the country, the small rooms scheduled for the coming dates will provide an intimate setting for fans to experience the new album. Joining Minus The Bear on the road at various points are O’Brother, Young Widows, and Mansions, and on September 20th they perform at the Sunset Strip Music Festival’s main stage. Upcoming tour dates and album track list below.

The follow up to ‘Infinity Overhead,’ which reached #31 on the Billboard 200 as Minus The Bear’s highest charting album to date, ‘Lost Loves’ lives up to its title quite literally as a collection of hard-to-let-go songs pulled from the band’s past seven-odd years of writing, recording and releasing records.

“Inevitably, some of your favourite songs are going to be cut in the necessity of creating the right sequence for that particular time,” bassist Cory Murchy says. “Regardless of the reason they weren’t included, it wasn’t for lack of love and appreciation of the songs themselves.” Somewhat by chance the black sheep that didn’t quite fit in with previous albums ‘Planet of Ice,’ ‘OMNI,’ and ‘Infinity Overhead’ coalesce among their once regretfully forsaken peers. “Perhaps it’s because they didn’t make the past albums that they fit so seamlessly together,” Murchy muses.

Over the years Minus The Bear “has made a name for itself creating music as ear-catching as it is resonant with fans of guitar athletics and progressive structures,” wrote Consequence of Sound, and ‘Lost Loves’ more than delivers on that promise. As the band began metaphorically reaching out to the “ones that got away” from past sessions, additional recording and vocals were completed for select tracks. “As a whole,” Murchy says, “this collection of songs offers as strong a package as any other album we’ve put together.”

Formed in 2001, Minus The Bear is comprised of Dave Knudson (guitar), Jake Snider (vocals, guitar), Erin Tate (drums), Cory Murchy (bass), and Alex Rose (synths, vocals). Over the past 13 years the band has cultivated a large and devoted international following, playing countless sold out venues as they tour the globe over, including North America, Europe, U.K., Japan and Australia, in addition to unforgettable performances at every high profile U.S. festival like Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza and Sasquatch!. Their past three indie label full-length releases have charted in the top half of the Billboard 200 with steadily increasing success, a testament to Minus The Bear’s standing as a musically innovative and beloved group with an unyielding fanbase that continues to grow with each album.

Wildcat! Wildcat! In Toronto Aug. 5 & Montreal Aug. 6

wildcat wildcat photo

Full-length debut ‘No Moon At All’ out Aug. 5

L.A. indie-popsters WILDCAT! WILDCAT! are coming to Canada on their first headlining tour, stopping Tues. Aug. 5 in TORONTO at THE DRAKE and Wed. Aug. 6 in MONTREAL at LA VITROLA.

“They return with driving beats and lilting harmonies, adding in a celestial touch and crispness. The first single, ‘Hero,’ hints at a group of musicians who haven’t forgotten their roots, but simply choose to expand the ceiling of their growth.” — Paste

Wildcat! Wildcat!‘s debut full-length, ‘No Moon At All,’ out Aug. 5 on Downtown Records/MapleMusic Recordings, ties the trio’s indie-pop anthems into a cohesive widescreen vision. Packed with the Los Angeles-based band’s uplifting musicality and angelic harmonies, the ten-track album, which features production from M83′s Morgan Kibby, represents both a major artistic leap and the culmination of the group’s rise since ‘Mr. Quiche’ and their initial run of buzzy singles.

Featuring longtime friends Jesse Taylor (vocals, bass), Michael Wilson (vocals, keys) and Jesse Carmichael (vocals, drums), Wildcat! Wildcat! officially formed in 2012. Their early tracks, available as blog downloads and a single from the tastemaker label Neon Gold, led to the band’s 2013 self-titled debut EP on Downtown Records/MapleMusic Recordings, which received critical acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork, Time, Stereogum, Nylon, Paste, Huffington Post and more.

In early 2013, Wildcat! Wildcat! was the subject of the Sam Jones-directed documentary Hello Everywhere – a feature that depicted the band’s journey from LA to SXSW for a massive concert with Passion Pit. The group has also toured with Alt-J, Portugal. The Man and MS MR.

On ‘No Moon At All,’ Wildcat! Wildcat! achieve full headliner status. Its sweeping arc and range create an emotionally-rousing world for the band’s infectious underdog anthems. ‘Tower’ sets the tone with a dreamy build and explosive low-end, while lead single ‘Hero’ mixes the group’s innovative harmonies with dance production and an earworm chorus. ‘Holloway (Hey, Love),’ with its skyrocketing emotions, is sure to play over many-a-movie’s end credits, and ‘End Of The World Everyday’ is a slinky, bold ballad.

“For me music is a way to explore human potential. And that’s my main interest in life – human potential. Everyone knows there’s something inside of us that we’re not using. How do we get it? Andrew Austin Pays Tribute to Dads For Father’s Day With New Video for ‘To Love Like This Again’

Zyo4KUuMkPYHit6wfqkYzWrGkQjYyFAKL2lyCiAusK8

Andrew Austin’s reputation as one of Canada’s most dynamic singer/songwriters keeps growing. Having recently wowed audiences in Toronto with two Canadian Music Week showcases, and reached living rooms coast to coast on Canada AM, Austin has produced a timely video for ‘To Love Like This Again,’ the lead-off track from his acclaimed debut album ‘While It’s Still Light Out.’

The song lent itself perfectly to Austin’s idea to pay tribute to fathers, especially those like him who are taking a more active role in raising their children. “The gender norm is changing and it’s awesome,” Austin says. “More and more, real world fathers are engaged, involved, and doting. They’re taking paternity leave and taking over more domestic duties. They are involved in their kids’ lives and proud of it. Everyone’s lives are enriched by this.”

Austin adds that his goal with the video is to put some of these images in the mainstream media to show that modern dads are more than just caring playmates. They can attend to a child’s needs just as well as Mom. The opening frame is a photo of Andrew as a baby with his father, which segues into a shot of Andrew with his child. From there, many more young dads are featured.

Upcoming Dates
Thursday June 5 — Toronto ON — Drake Hotel 8:30PM (w/ Scarlett Jane)
Saturday June 28 — Sarnia ON — Sarnia Centennial Celebration 2PM
