Don Brownrigg make his MMR debut with ‘It Takes All Kinds (To Make This World I Find)’. Written and recorded over a 2-year span in Nova Scotia by Don and producer Daniel Ledwell performing nearly every part on the album. Featuring the CBC-loved single ‘Sweet Dream Sleeper’ and ‘Just Breathe’ from his Southern Souls session. Forming from Andy Cabic’s backing band and moving West to Portland, Pure Bathing Culture‘s debut LP ‘Moon Tides’ is available now. The band premiered the much loved single ‘Pendulum’ on Gorilla VS Bear and followed it up with the fantastic stop motion video for ‘Dream The Dare’. Currently on the North American leg of their tour, they visit Toronto November 2nd at the Silver Dollar with Widowspeak.
Ten years on from their last release, The Dismemberment Plan return with ‘Uncanney Valley’. Travis Morrison detailed the album earlier this year in an interview with Noisey. The band heads out on their first tour since reuniting, hitting the US and the UK before the end of the year. Now three records deep, Jonathan Wilson’s latest ‘Fanfare’ is available now. Featuring vocal and instrumental contributions from Graham Nash, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Father John Misty, Wilco’s Patrick Sansone and more, the album celebrates friends and family. Jonathan is currently on tour in the UK and Europe but those itching to see him now can watch the video for ‘Dear Friend’.

It’s a rare and beautiful thing when a band emerges fully formed, but it makes perfect sense in the case of guitarist Daniel Hindman and keyboardist Sarah Versprille’s Pure Bathing Culture, who today share single “Pendulum,” off their forthcoming full-length debut, ‘Moon Tides.’ ”Pendulum” is a perfect mid-tempo album opener that pulses and shines, and other standout tracks from the album — “Dream The Dare”, “Twins”, “Scotty” and “Golden Girl” — are slices of reverb-drenched, soulful, danceable electro-pop, that musically and lyrically tap into an introspective worship of the natural and psychic mysteries that surround us. MapleMusic Recordings will release ‘Moon Tides’ on October 22nd and the band will share songs from the forthcoming album on an North American tour this fall.
Cold War Kids follow up this year’s killer comeback “Dear Miss Lonelyhearts” with the “Tuxedos” EP. Featuring two previously unreleased songs ”Romance Languages #2″ and “Pine St.”, a pair of covers, and two tracks from Lonelyhearts. The band continue their North American tour now through November, see dates here. Brooklyn’s San Fermin traveled to the mountainous border between Alberta and British Columbia to record their debut self-titled record. Ellis Ludwig-Leone blends classical composition with post-rock and chamber pop on the 17 tracks who’s public debut began with the infectious single “Sonsick” on Stereogum. Butch Walker makes his MMR debut with the “Peachtree Battle” EP which he has dedicated to his late father. Out now on iTunes, the EP will be available on CD and vinyl 10/22. Toronto sweetheart Royal Wood debuted his new single “Forever and Ever” in the trailer for Massey Hall & Roy Thompson Hall’s 2013/2014 concert season, watch below.

“Melt” is the sultry new track from Chet Faker featuring Kilo Kish, and can be heard now via Soundcloud. Look for it as a digital single via Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings in the coming weeks, in conjunction with his upcoming 17 date North American tour. Kicking off September 3 in Los Angeles, the tour will include stops at Portland’s MusicfestNW, Montreal’s Club Lambi, The Laneway Festival in Detroit, The Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, and a show in New York City with recent collaborator Flume.
2013 has been a busy year for Chet Faker–the pseudonym Australian Nicholas Murphy crafted as an ode to Chet Baker’s singing style while incorporating influences from a youth spent producing house and disco. In addition to his first North American tour, and his hugely popular collaboration with fellow Australian Flume on the track “Left Alone,” he was also featured on the Swedish/Australian group Say Lou Lou’s track “Fool Of Me”–earning a “Best New Track” from Pitchfork.
Before Chet Faker, Murphy spent his time splitting his musical output between a penchant for soft and soulful singer-songwriter work and an appetite for electronic music production. But it was when he coupled his love of analogue instruments and sounds of early dance music–only this time slowing the tempo–with his natural ability for R&B-soaked vocals, that something truly exciting happened.
Chet is currently working on an EP with Flume and recording his debut album.

White Denim’s New Album ‘Corsicana Lemonade’ Is Set For An October 29th Release Via Downtown Records And MapleMusic Recordings
Listen To The First Single ‘Pretty Green’ HERE
Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings will release Corsicana Lemonade, the new studio album from Austin-based White Denim, on October 29. Featuring production on two songs and a full mix from iconic songwriter Jeff Tweedy, the 10-song collection channels the group’s manic live virtuosity into a rollicking 10-song mission statement.
The band will play the Austin City Limits Festival and tour the U.S. with Tame Impala this fall. Tickets are on sale now for the run, which will kick off at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO on October 8. In a live review, the LA Weekly observed, “it’s refreshing to see a band without pretense or shtick, whose only agenda is to play the hell out of their instruments and bring the audience along for the ride.” With ‘Corsicana Lemonade’, White Denim consciously set out to capture the feel of its lightning-rod live sets. “It’s taken five records to make one that sounds the way we do onstage,” says James Petralli, vocalist/guitarist for White Denim.
The album marks the first time White Denim has worked with outside producers. The band had found its time on the road with Wilco inspirational and turned to Jeff Tweedy, the GRAMMY®- winning group’s front man, as they prepared to record Corsicana Lemonade. Working at The Loft, Wilco’s Chicago headquarters /studio, White Denim recorded two tracks with Tweedy and his frequent production partner, Tom Schick (Rufus Wainwright, Ryan Adams), in March 2013. Upon returning to Austin, the band members built their own studio at a house on a cliff overlooking Lake Travis, where they recorded the remaining tracks with local music legend Jim Vollentine.
“We wheeled-in a bunch of crazy ’50s gear and played from noon until 2 a.m. every day until the album was done,” recalls Petralli. “We played live together, doing takes as a whole. Whatever sounded best was what we stuck with.” ‘Corsicana Lemonade’ is the follow-up to White Denim’s D, which was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone and MOJO and named by both publications as one of the 50 best albums of 2011. “Expect whiplash of the most intriguing, enjoyable kind,” said SPIN while Pitchfork praised D as “White Denim’s best-sounding effort yet.”
Since its formation in 2005 and first string of EPs in 2007, White Denim has steadily expanded its sound. From the rootsy classicism of Last Day Of Summer (2010) and noisy sun-soaked sizzle of Fits (2009) to the soft-edged riffage of D (2011), the group’s commitment to fiery live performance, textured exploration and blissful interludes has never wavered. It peaks on ‘Corsicana Lemonade’.

NEW ALBUM ‘WHITE LIGHTER’ OUT AUGUST 20TH
BAND CONFIRMS NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINING TOUR WITH A TORONTO SHOW BEING ADDED
Hear “White Lighter” On NPR’s First Listen HERE
Typhoon, one of the most talked about new bands, is proud to premiere their new album “White Lighter” on NPR’s First Listen.
Spin Magazine calls first single Young Fathers a “mind-boggling chunk of orchestral pop,” going on to say “this latest epic dives into the group’s enormous range: Frontman Kyle Morton‘s earnest vocals lead the charge, his wondrous delivery flanked by left-field riffage, sudden fits of silence, chirping backup singers, and triumphant horns – and those are just a few of the sounds thriving inside ‘Young Fathers.’”
Typhoon will head out on a North America headlining tour beginning September 5th in their hometown of Portland, OR. This six-week tour will include performances at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, Pop Montreal and Music Fest NW, along with stops in New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver.
What makes White Lighter so great is the sense of borrowed time and urgency. A series of events suffered from a bug bite - failed organs, life spared thanks to modern medicine and a kidney given to him by his father - Kyle, the band’s lead singer and songwriter, channeled his emotions into songwriting to create this big-hearted sound that bursts with a raw emotion and energy. The end result is a remarkably powerful and beautiful collection of songs.
“When we started working on White Lighter, I had reason to believe that it would be the last thing I ever did,” says Kyle. “It is now six months since we finished. I’m still here and there’s still work to be done.”

Critically acclaimed LA-based band Wildcat! Wildcat! are set to release their highly anticipated, self-titled debut EP September 10 on Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings. The band garnered critical praise for their previously released sold-out limited addition 7″ on the taste-making label Neon Gold Records, including early support from BBC Radio 1 in the U.K. TIME raves, “I love the staccato electronic rock, I love the frantic opening measures, I love the fleeting falsetto in the background,” while NYLON furthers,”Undoubtedly one of the best tracks we’ve heard all year…these guys certainly have more in store for 2013.” To celebrate the release, the band will embark on a North American tour starting in September.
The new EP was written and produced by the band in their home studios over the course of the last year and a half. Of the songs Jesse Carmichael (vocals, drums) notes, “Some came quicker than others but all of them provided us the time to try out different processes of collaboration and understand how and why we make the kind of music that we make together.”
Wildcat! Wildcat! is Jesse Taylor (vocals, bass), Michael Wilson (vocals, keys) and Carmichael. The trio played together in various incarnations before officially forming Wildcat! Wildcat! in 2012. The band has toured extensively including SXSW, a sold out west coast headlining run and major U.S. support slots with Alt-J and Portugal. The Man.

Pre-Order Their Album ‘Essential Tremors’ HERE
Watch The Brand New “Heavy Bells” Live Teaser HERE
The third album from J. Roddy Walston & The Business, ‘Essential Tremors‘ borrows its name from a nervous-system disorder that’s long plagued the band’s frontman. “It’s this condition where my hands shake, sometimes not at all, but sometimes pretty bad,” says singer/pianist/guitarist Walston. “I’ve referenced it throughout all our records in some way, but it made sense to be more open about it on this album, which is partly about owning and embracing your weirdness instead of letting it hold you captive because you don’t even want to talk about it.”
For J. Roddy Walston & The Business, who formed in 2002 in Walston’s hometown of Cleveland, Tennessee, embracing weirdness means a mumble-out-loud celebration of that great and terrible burden of being human. Forcing the oft-clashing worlds of art and rock-and-roll to make nice, the band (including guitarist/vocalist Billy Gordon, bassist/vocalist Logan Davis, and drummer Steve Colmus) deals in a scrappy yet sublime sound that honours both their Southern roots and punk spirit. On ‘Essential Tremors’ J. Roddy Walston & The Business builds off that formula with a mix of heavy hooks and elegant melodies revealing their affinity for artists as disparate as Led Zeppelin, pre-disco-era Bee Gees, The Replacements, Randy Newman, and the Southern soul outfits that once populated the Stax Records label.
Co-produced by Matt Wignall (Delta Spirit, Cold War Kids) and Grammy-winning producer/engineer Mark Neill (The Black Keys) at Neill’s own Soil of the South Studios (a Valdosta, Georgia-based facility where J. Roddy Walston & The Business were the first to ever record), the follow-up to 2010′s much-acclaimed self-titled sophomore album also finds the band crafting lyrics that ultimately serve as a secret language to the initiated listener.
“It seems like most bands write for either the animal side of people or for the side that’s more in tune with the spirit or even just the psyche, but we tend to just smash all those things together,” says Walston. “It’s like we’re writing religious songs for the animal side. We’ve got songs that feel like party songs but if you look at it closer, it’s something more cerebral. So for the people who want to dig in and connect all the weird crosswires, the song can turn into something else.” And because J. Roddy Walston & The Business is practiced in the art of subversion, he adds, “these are songs you can get away with listening to around ‘the straights.’ The danger is in what lies behind the codes and the prose, and how gently they unravel once you’ve digested them.”
Endlessly shifting from snarling and stompy to warm and soulful-and often encompassing all of the above within the same note, ’Essential Tremors’ opens with “Heavy Bells,” a powerhouse lead single that starts out breezy then gives way to a blistering chorus that threatens to rip Walston’s sweetly ragged vocals right open. The album amps up that brutal energy on songs like “Hard Times” (an epic anthem built on a mercilessly driving bassline) and “Sweat Shock” (a track that comes off like dance-floor war cry for Native American metalheads), while “Marigold” keeps it blissfully catchy and “Black Light” offers a glammed-up bedroom boogie that could be the soundtrack to a metaphysical seduction scene. Even when turning tender (such as on the heart-on-sleeve serenade “Boys Can Never Tell,” the harmony-soaked “Nobody Knows,” and the album-closing stunner “Midnight Cry”), Essential Tremors burns with a raw passion that’s nothing short of glorious.
Releasing their debut EP ‘Here Comes Trouble’ in 2002, J. Roddy Walston & The Business relocated to Baltimore in 2004 after Walston’s then-girlfriend (and now wife) began studying opera at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. Along with putting out their first full-length album (2007′s Hail Mega Boys), the band devoted the next few years to earning a reputation as an incendiary live act that devotees aptly liken to “AC/DC fronted by Jerry Lee Lewis.” Along with touring with the likes of The Black Keys, Lucero and the Lumineers, J. Roddy Walston & The Business have brought their joyfully chaotic performance to such festivals as Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and Bonnaroo.
Melting all manner of stereotypes into an as-yet-unnamed breed of New American, each performance finds hipsters hugging Teamsters and sweating till it hurts, and art-school cynics and metalheads screaming out every lyric in some gorgeously desperate attempt to connect. There seems to be a competition between the band and the crowd as to who will give more each night. To attempt that connection for yourself, check out the band on their upcoming fall tour; all dates are listed below.
