Able Island is the sophomore record by Toronto based Language Arts – it’s dedicated to their home, Nova Scotia, and is inspired by the mystique of the feral Sable Island. Recorded across Canada in a myriad of locations (bedrooms, basements, hotels, clubs, alleyways, cottages, etc.) it is DIY in its truest form. Having already been released digitally, the album has received notable features/reviews in Noisey, CBC, BeatRoute, NOW Magazine, Quick Before It Melts, plus many more, and now finally becomes available physically on vinyl. Also available on vinyl for the first time is Mediac, the fourth album and triumphant return of Indie Rock veterans The Most Serene Republic after almost half a decade of silence. The ten songs on Mediac were recorded by the band over four years throughout Toronto, produced by The Most Serene Republic’s Ryan Lenssen and mixed by sonic architect David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Super Furry Animals & Los Campesinos!). Originally released digitally on November 13, 2015, it received features in Stereogum, Exclaim!, CBC Music, and more, as well as led to a sold out show at the Horseshoe Tavern last month. Mediac is now available to purchase on a 145 gram white vinyl including a digital download card.

New Releases: Marcus Marr & Chet Faker ‘Work EP’, and Chet Faker ‘Built On Glass’ Limited Edition Pink Vinyl
Over the past few years, a musical admiration between Chet Faker and Marcus Marr has grown, which culminated in a four-day sojourn in Marr’s South London studio earlier this year. The recording session lasted less than a week and the two discovered that Marr’s powerful, punchy dance production perfectly balanced Faker’s soulful vocals. The result is the 4-track EP ‘Work,’ out now via Faker’s imprint, Detail Records and comes to MMR through Downtown Records/Fontana North. Chet Faker also re-releases his critically-acclaimed full-length debut Built On Glass on limited edition Pink Vinyl in support of Ten Bands One Cause.

Sound & Color – the follow-up to Alabama Shakes‘ Gold-certified debut album, Boys & Girls – demonstrates the tremendous strides made by the band. From the gently swaying, chiming title song to the garage-rock freak-out on “The Greatest” to the psychedelic space jam “Gemini,” Alabama Shakes build on the soulful blues-rock base and map a surprising, innovative new direction. See the Shakes live when they come up to Canada headlining Toronto’s Field Trip festival and hit the west coast for Squamish Valley Music Festival. San Fermin bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone wrote Jackrabbit by himself from start to finish, only to find that after a year testing the songs on the road the album wasn’t nearly finished. Ellis explains, “I went from being this isolated composer guy, out in the woods, to sitting in the back of a van with seven other members playing shows in rock clubs every night. When I got back, I revisited it all, ripped these holes in the middle of all the existing songs and added some new songs. I rethought everything I had been writing.” Watch the full band performing “Emily” and the “title track” live via their YouTube.
